A basket of apples and hail.
When I went on vacation to Washington, I got the lightning photo I had been clamoring for in Florida. And now that I'm in Maine, I've witnessed a hailstorm unlike anything I've seen during my year in Florida.
I had just arrived at my friend's place in Windham, which is in the southern part of the state, just north of Portland. As I drove into the driveway of her house, hail started to fall. And by the time I parked, it was coming down too much for me to dare to exit my Hyundai Sonata rental car.
I stayed in the car and shot some video until Molly, my friend, came out with a heavy-duty poncho. It was my ticket into the house.
Most of the hail was probably the size of a penny. The fierce thunderstorm dropped the temperature from the upper 70s to the low 50s in a matter of minutes.
And Floridians think their weather is crazy. Oh, but then again, we aren't getting hit by a hurricane up here in Maine.
Take a look at the video.

The low 50s? That's frigid. Yikes. At least the thunder sounds the same.
Oh, and hail doesn't happen much in Florida. Enjoy it in Maine.
I always hear forecasters talking about hail, but I never see it. I guess I just expect to see it sometime with severe storms in Florida.
You haven't updated in a while. Do you think you're on vacation or something? Inquiring minds want to know the news from Mainerland, waaaaaaaay up yonder.
As for the forecasters, I've heard them say that, but I've never seen hail in Florida. Maybe those forecasters are longing for something other than rain.
